Orkli Group. A global manufacturer of components and systems for home comfort and safety, it offers comprehensive, high-efficiency solutions for the water heating, heating, and gas safety sectors.
The Problem
The shift from component manufacturer to Smart Home provider brought different challenges. To address this, Orkli and Biotz developed a unified IoT platform for centralized control, data security, and scalable B2B/B2C solutions.
Data Ownership Issues:
Using third-party cloud services reduces control over critical IoT data, and user activity information ends up scattered across multiple apps, making it hard to manage and analyze.
Poor User Experience:
Users must rely on several separate apps to control their smart devices, resulting in a confusing experience. There is no single platform to manage heating and cooling systems in one place.
Limited Scalability:
Installers lack a unified B2B platform to manage and support installed devices, and the company’s IoT systems (both proprietary and third-party) do not work seamlessly together.
The solution
A consultancy created the designs, while Biotz created the IoT platform and integrated B2B & B2C applications.
IoT Platform
- Device Management: Ownership, access, connectivity
- Data Processing: Storage, validation, analytics
- Security: On-prem Azure with Orkli-specific protocols
B2B Platform
- Internal Units: Manage Orkli’s users & devices across divisions
- Installers: Track and control end-user devices
B2C Mobile App
- Same backend with user-focused design
- Smart controls: Remote heating & cooling adjustments
- Monetization via extra features
