Orkli Group. A global manufacturer of components and systems for home comfort and safety, it offers comprehensive, high-efficiency solutions for the water heating, heating, and gas safety sectors.
The Problem
Orkli needed an IoT platform capable of managing and visualizing the large volumes of data generated by its new IoT-enabled solar system, OKSOL-SMART. Despite the system’s potential, installers and end-users lacked real-time insights, proactive maintenance tools, and intuitive dashboards to understand energy production, storage, and system performance.
Without a unified, user-friendly interface, it was difficult to monitor operations, anticipate issues, and deliver the data-driven services required for an efficient, modern solar solution.
Real-time data visualization
The OKSOL-SMART system includes sensors and IoT electronics that constantly capture data on the system's status and operation. This data is sent to Orkli's servers, allowing users to monitor their equipment's performance in real time. Both installers and end-users can access this information through a dedicated web application and mobile app.
Management of system preventive maintenance
By continuously monitoring the system's performance, the IoT platform helps manage preventive maintenance. It can detect and alert users to potential issues, allowing for proactive intervention before a failure occurs. This minimizes downtime and extends the equipment's lifespan. The IoT tools provide remote access for service professionals, making maintenance management more efficient.
User-friendly and simple interfaces for real-time reporting of energy produced and stored
The web and mobile applications offer a user-friendly interface that provides valuable data to the end-user. This includes information on available domestic hot water (DHW) and energy savings. The interfaces are designed to be simple and easy to understand, empowering users with data to manage their energy consumption and maximize savings.
The solution
We spent six months building a fully tailored IoT solution for the OKSOL solar system, with a strong focus on data management, alerts, and performance monitoring. The final solution is built around two core components:
The IoT Platform: We adapted the Biotz Enterprise platform to Orkli’s requirements, enabling reliable data ingestion, device management, and remote actions such as firmware updates. In addition, we created a control panel with multiple interfaces that deliver complete visibility and monitoring of the solar panels.
Ad-hoc Applications: To support each type of user, there were developed two dedicated applications available 24/7 on any connected device. The professional version provides in-depth data and advanced management tools, while the end-user application is a simpler, intuitive experience focused on essential system metrics and energy savings.
The impact
The integration of IoT technology has transformed OKSOL into a connected, data-driven solar solution. What was once a traditional product is now a smart platform that delivers continuous insights, proactive monitoring, and higher operational reliability for all users involved.
Installers can now manage a larger portfolio of systems more efficiently, reducing the need for on-site visits and diagnosing issues remotely before they escalate. This not only cuts down on operational costs but also improves customer satisfaction by ensuring the system operates at peak performance.
For end-users the intuitive applications offer real-time visibility into energy production and savings, making the value of solar energy clear and easy to understand. This transparency empowers users to make informed decisions about their energy consumption, while early alerts to potential issues enhance system longevity and reliability. As a result, downtime is minimized and both the economic and environmental benefits of the solar installation are maximized, promoting long-term energy efficiency and greater overall savings.
OKSOL-SMART delivers a smarter, more reliable, and user-centric solar experience, strengthening Orkli’s position and the value of every installation.
